If you are looking for an exotic, eye-catching showstopper to add to your collection, look no further than Brassidium (Brsdm.) Gilded Urchin. This spectacular Oncidium alliance hybrid is famous for its wild, starry appearance and reliable, vigorous growth habit.
Each flower spike produces a stunning arching display of spidery, elongated blossoms. The striking contrast of bright, golden-yellow petals heavily marked with deep chocolate-brown spots makes every single bloom look like a work of art.
Why It Stands Out:
Unique Spider Orchid Shape: Inheriting its exotic form from its Brassia ancestors, its dramatic, narrow petals give it a mesmerizing, spidery appearance that always gets noticed.
Abundant, Arching Blooms: A single mature pseudobulb can push out long, elegant spikes loaded with dozens of closely packed flowers, creating a waterfall of gold.
Delightful Fragrance: On warm, sunny days, 'Gilded Urchin' fills the surrounding air with a light, pleasant, and spicy floral scent.
Vigorous Grower: This hybrid is incredibly resilient and quick to clump, meaning more pseudobulbs, more spikes, and bigger flower shows year after year.
Quick Care Guide:
Light: Medium to bright, filtered light. An east or shaded south/west window works beautifully. The leaves should maintain a bright, healthy grass-green color.
Water: Water thoroughly just as the potting medium approaches dryness. They prefer to stay evenly moist during active summer growth but never soggy, with slightly less water in the winter.
Temperature: Intermediate to Warm (65°F – 85°F). It adapts incredibly well to standard household temperature ranges.
Fertilizer: Feed every two weeks with a weak solution of balanced orchid fertilizer during the spring and summer growing seasons.
Grown in 4" pots. Available in tight spike in limited supply.
