Kalapana Kev honors Kathryn the Great! 

Kathryn Lee Evans, lived a life of service and unwavering devotion to her family.  Born on August 4, 1946, in Boise, Idaho, she was raised by Kathryn Pearl Hahn and Benjamin Wesley Sammons.   

In the quaint town of La Grande, Oregon, Kathi ruled as the matriarch of her family. Alongside her husband, John Evans, she raised two boys of their own, Eric and Aaron.  But Kathi's heart was open for more.  She hosted foreign exchange students, welcomed foster children, and even adopted four more kids:  Katrina, Kevin (aka Kalapana Kev), Laura, and Mikel.  She turned her humble home into a small sanctuary for undesirable children with her compassion and selflessness. 

Kathi's passions were as varied as the colors of her vegetable garden.  She pursue fun and learning with her children, a deep reader of sci-fi novels, lover of board games, video games and computers. Routine camping trips offered her and family moments of adventure and connection with nature, while her expertise in fly fishing allowed her to find solace in the rhythmic dance of the rivers. 

On January 21, 2021, the Evans family said its goodbyes to this remarkable woman.  But Kathryn’s spirit lives on.  Her call to be big hearted, and serve with fun and grace will endure.
