This charming hybrid brings together the legendary elegance of the Japanese "Wind Orchid" (Neofinetia falcata) with the vibrant, sun-drenched colors of Ascocenda. The result is a compact, vandaceous orchid that produces clusters of striking, star-shaped flowers. The blooms typically range from warm apricots to fiery oranges, often retaining the delicate, graceful spur inherited from its Neofinetia parent.
Its monopodial growth habit and narrow, fan-shaped leaves make it a beautiful architectural piece even when it isn't in bloom.
Why You’ll Love It:
-
Compact Powerhouse: Unlike many of its larger Vanda cousins, this hybrid stays manageable in size, making it perfect for windowsill growers or those with limited space.
-
Sunset Palette: The glowing orange and golden hues add a cheerful pop of tropical color to any collection, reminiscent of a summer sunset.
-
Frequent Bloomer: Thanks to its Ascocenda heritage, this orchid is known for its vigor and its ability to bloom multiple times a year when given the right conditions.
-
Sweet Scent: Many specimens carry a light, pleasant fragrance, especially during the early morning or evening hours.
-
Adaptable Nature: It is significantly more tolerant of varying home environments than pure species orchids, making it a great choice for both beginners and veterans.
Quick Care Guide:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is best. It thrives in an east or west-facing window. A slight reddish tint on the leaves is a good sign that it's receiving the maximum amount of light it can handle.
-
Water: These orchids prefer to stay on the moist side but need excellent airflow. Water 2–3 times a week, or more frequently if grown in a basket without media. Ensure the roots turn from silver to vibrant green during watering.
-
Temperature: Intermediate to Warm (65°F – 85°F). It enjoys consistent warmth but can tolerate short dips into the 50s.
-
Fertilizer: Use a balanced orchid fertilizer at half-strength every two weeks during the growing season. Flush with plain water once a month to prevent salt buildup.
