This species is native to various locations throughout southeast Asia including Thailand, Singapore, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Rhynchostylis (Rhy.) orchids are close relatives to Vanda orchids. The main difference between these related genera is flower presentation; unlike Vanda, Rhynchostylis orchids have one-lobed lips and are usually highly fragrant. Before re-classification, this genus consisted of thirteen species from China, Indochina, Indonesia, Indian Subcontinent, Malaysia and the Philippines, but now there are only four recognized species in this genus of marvelous orchids. Rhynchostylis orchids grow epiphytically in the Asian rainforests on the lower parts of trees, unlike Vanda orchids, which grow on the tops.
Blooms are highly fragrant with a strong spicy-sweet aroma.
Rhynchostylis gigantea orchids require bright, indirect light, frequent watering, and regular fertilizing. They also prefer high humidity and strong air circulation.
