Rlc. Waianae Leopard 'Ching Hua' x Blc. Sun Spots 'Waiomao's Golden Leopard' is a hybrid Cattleya alliance orchid highly prized for its vibrant, heavily spotted flowers.

  • Flowers: Mid-sized, thick-textured blooms featuring bright yellow-to-bronze petals heavily covered in deep red, magenta, or dark maroon spots. Flowers are finished with a contrasting, ruffled magenta or fuchsia lip.

  • Fragrance: Typically sweet and citrusy, strongest during bright morning light.

  • Growth Habit: Sympodial, medium-sized plant growing from rigid pseudobulbs with thick, leathery leaves.

Care

  • Light: Bright, indirect light (2,000–3,000 foot-candles). Leaves should be medium-to-lime green. Dark green indicates insufficient light; reddish tint indicates maximum threshold.

  • Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the potting medium to dry out almost completely before watering again. Roots need strict wet-to-dry cycles to prevent root rot.

  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm grower. Daytime temperatures of 70°F–85°F (21°C–29°C) and nighttime temperatures around 55°F–65°F (13°C–18°C).

  • Humidity & Airflow: Requires 50%–70% relative humidity alongside strong, continuous air circulation to keep leaves cool and dry.

  • Potting Media: Coarse orchid bark mix, charcoal, and perlite in a well-draining pot (terracotta or slotted plastic). Repot every 2 years or when new growth outgrows the rim, ideally right as fresh root tips emerge.

  • Fertilizer: Feed weakly weekly using a balanced orchid fertilizer (20-20-20) diluted to 1/4 strength during active growth; flush with plain water once a month to prevent salt buildup. Reduce feeding in winter.
