Sarcochilus orchids, native to Australia and New Caledonia, are known for their unique flowers and preference for breezy, shaded, humid conditions. Ella Pat x 'Sweetheart Speckles' is a hybrid producing clusters of dainty white blossoms with eye-catching speckles of deep red centered around the a, bright yellow and red lip. This plant is simply adorable AND cute as a button!
Habitat: Commonly found in gullies, ravines, and gorges, clinging to hosts that allow for frequent dampening of the root system (on rock or wood).
Common Names: Sarcochilus orchids are also known as Butterfly orchids, Fairy Bells, Gunnia, Parasarcochilus, and Monanthochilus.
Flower Characteristics: Flowers are spreading or cupped, often fragrant, with free, spreading sepals and petals. The lip is three-lobed, with a minute, fleshy, saccate midlobe.
Growth Habit: Sarc. orchids enjoy breezy, shaded, humid conditions and do best lower down in a shade house or fernery.
Watering: They require plenty of water when in active growth but during Winter, when they cease growth, watering once each week is ample.
Light: They prefer light levels of 1500 to 2000 foot candles (fc).
