Deep Burgundy Flowers on a Palm-Sized Fan
An equitant oncidium hybrid carrying dense, miniature fans of stiff, succulent foliage. It packs the flowering habit of a much larger spray orchid into a silhouette that tucks into the palm of your hand.
The blooms open in saturated, velvety shades of deep burgundy and oxblood, anchored by an exaggerated, ruffled lip that fans out like a pleated ballroom skirt. Crisp sepals and petals frame the skirt with contrasting dark freckles, creating a three-quarter-inch bloom with substantial substance that holds fresh for weeks along an arching wire spike.
Tolumnias are notorious for delivering outsized drama from ridiculously modest footprints, and this clone leans hard into that reputation. It asks for bright morning sun, breezy air, and a fast dry-down, throwing multi-flowered spikes that hover over the foliage like a cloud of tiny maroon kites. On a bright windowsill where space is precious, it earns its keep without ever demanding a square inch more than it deserves.
Quick Care Guide
-
Light: Bright, filtered morning light to partial sun in an east or south-facing window. Foliage should show a light bronze or reddish cast.
-
Water: Saturate the root system thoroughly in the morning, then allow it to dry out completely before nightfall.
-
Temperature: Nights 62–68°F, days 75–90°F.
-
Fertilizer: Balanced orchid fertilizer diluted to quarter-strength, applied weakly once a week during active spring and summer growth.
-
Mature size: Stiff triangular leaf fans reach two to four inches tall; wiry bloom spikes extend six to twelve inches.
