Collection: Species Orchids

An orchid species is a naturally occurring orchid found in the wild, while an orchid hybrid is a plant created by intentionally cross-breeding two different plants to combine desirable traits, essentially making it a man-made variety with genetics from multiple parent species. Primary hybrids occur when two species are crossed. Simply put, species orchids evolved in nature, while hybrids are cultivated by humans through breeding.

A species orchid has a unique genetic makeup specific to its natural population. When creating ideal growing conditions for your species orchid, it's helpful to consider where it evolved, having adapted to its natural habitat over millions of years.

Species orchids are often (but not always) miniature plants, making them ideal for compact spaces. They make great gifts for orchid enthusiasts and wonderful additions to any collection.
